Error during the launch of X Guard Application

Getting the System to record and playback (9 port and 16 port)

FAQ (All Versions)

Grand X Guard - Installation Assistance

Symptom - During launch of the X Guard application, an error is generated.

Cause - The operating system has likely installed a generic driver instead of the specific X Guard driver. If installed correctly, it should list two devices:

  • XGuard, GrandTec Video Capture X Port
  • XGuard, GrandTec Video Capture X Port

Note: The specific procedure and terminology may vary depending upon your Windows version and configuration.

Step 1: Gp to the Control Panel

Control Panel

Double-click to open the System icon. Click on the Hardware tab and open the Device Manager

Hardware

If installed properly the devices will be listed under Sound, video and game controllers. If not installed properly, the devices will likely be listed under the category Other. The device names will be Multimedia Controller and Multimedia Audio Controller.

device Manager

Double-click on the Multimedia Controller and click on the Driver tab. Click the button to "Update Driver".

Driver Tab

Do not let the operating system search for the best driver because what it originally found did not work properly.

Update Device Driver

Specify the location of the driver. Click on the button "Have Disk" and browse to the CD-ROM.

Upgrade Device Driver

Open the driver folder that corresponds to the version of Windows that is on the system.

Install From Disk

Complete the wizard according to the on-screen instructions.
REPEAT the process for the Multimedia Audio Controller.

Recording on the 9 and 16 Port

Symptom - No recordings are showing up in the File Log.

Fix - Recording is a multi-step process. Please be sure to complete each step.

1. Check ONLY the cameras which physically have cameras connected as ACTIVE in the preview window.

2. Click ON the box for each camera your wish to record under "Record Video Stream" (on the Motion Detect tab).

3. Click on the four-color monitor icon to enter full-screen mode to enable all of the record settings.

Note: You can only record while in full-screen mode. To exit full-screen mode, press Escape.

  Viewing the Recordings

Symptom - Upon launching the File Log, an error is generated.

Cause - Windows does not allow a user to access a file while a file is in use. Essentially, since the record settings are still set to record, the system can not create the file database because the files are still in use.

Fix - The recording must be turned off. This can effectively be done one of two ways.

1. Uncheck the box for "Record Video Stream" for each camera that has it checked. Click on the short-cut to the File Log in the software.

2. Exit out of the X Guard application and enter the File Log directly through the Start menu. Click on Start -> Programs -> X Guard -> File db

  FAQ

Q. Can more than one card be installed in the system?
A. No. One card per PC.

Q. All of the cameras are just white screens. Why?
A. The card attempts to automatically color-balance all of the cameras at once. If a camera port is listed as active (9 and 16 port) or if a preview window is open (4 port) for a port that does not physically have a camera connected, then it tries to balance with a camera that is not there. The result is a white screen for all cameras. To resolve this, close or de-list as active any ports without cameras connected.

Q. I am not using all of the ports on a 9 or 16 port card. Can I get the full-screen mode to fill up using just the cameras in use?
A. No. Since the resolution for each camera is fixed to 320x240, the screen positions are also fixed.

Q. Can you view the recordings in the database while still recording?
A. Since the system requires all of the resources be free and therefore requires the system be in full-screen mode to record, you cannot access the File Database while recording.

Q. Can you access the File Database from the remote application? A. Due to various security concerns, the remote application can only be used to view the server and create remote recordings. You cannot change the server settings or access the server's file database.
If this is an absolute necessity, a third-party remote desktop application may be used to access the server. Such applications are not explicitly supported by GrandTec.

Q. Can more than one user access the server remotely during the same session?
A. No. One user at a time.

Q. Do you have a question that is not answered here?
A. Email us and we'll not only answer your question directly, but we'll consider it for inclusion here.
